Time Traveller

After three months that has seemed like a year and the blink of an eye I am off to America for a couple of weeks R&R. The plane leaves Tokyo tomorrow lunchtime and arrives in Chicago before it left, just in time for breakfast. I just had to ring Jess US and check that was possible given my past inability to tell the time, particularly in air travel related situations. She said that yes, in reality if not in science, one can travel backwards in time.

I finally managed to say my goodbye speech this time. Seeing how I knew I’d be back in a few days instead of standing up, bursting into floods of tears and squeaking something incomprehensible, I clearly heard myself say the words I’ve wanted to say on each of the previous four times I’ve left a project. By the time I left Haiti for the third time I knew the score and wrote it out and had my great friend Junior read it for me so it has been given, just not by me. So for the next few days its goodbye to the best place I’ve ever been, the best thing I’ve ever done and the best people I’ve ever met.

See you all again soon.

About Jess UK

Fell in love with the crazy, inspiring, all-or-nothing world of disaster response and the wonderfully ridiculous, hard-working people who are drawn to it. Currently working in the Philippines as part of the recovery efforts after Typhoon Washi/Sendong! Want to know more? Check out disasterchasers.wordpress.com.
